btw - last Saturday I wandered up to 3000'. Coming back down I ran into a guy halfway up from the picnic tables with a huge pack on his back! It was noon, 80+ and he said he was going to the tram station
After telling him everything I knew about the trail he said he'd try to make it to Flat Rock and camp. I can't imagine he made it that far at the speed he was going, but he did have winter gear and crampons. He said he'd never been on the trail before and had already been lost multiple times above the Art Museum. He'd got a late start because he, "hadn't had much sleep last night"...
