Humber Park to Hwy 74

Hi All! I am planning a backpacking trip from Humber Park to Saddle Junction and then south to Hwy 74 via the PCT. I am planning on starting the hike on November 25th and taking 3 days to complete the hike. This assumes there is no snow between now and then.

Does anyone have any information on current water conditions? I know there are several springs along the way (Apache, Cedar, Tunnel, Live Oak, maybe others?) and I believe the PCT crosses Tahquitz creek. Does anyone know if there is water flow at any of these sources? Are there other known active water sources along the trail?

Are there any suggestions, tips, or other things that might be helpful in planning this trip? All input and suggestions are welcome. Thanks!!

Tahquitz Creek and Apache Spring had water on 10/20/08. The info I have for the rest is old. If you can, post what you find here for others.

Thanks for the info and the website. Do you know if these springs usually run year round?

If I make it, I will be certain to update the PCT water reports. I can see how this comes in handy. Thanks again.

Also, does anyone know if I need to get permits for this section of the PCT? If so, do you know what Ranger Station I need to contact? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

You should only need the free wilderness permit, which you can pick up at the Forest Service office in Idyllwild. And of course an "Adventure Pass" to park at Humber.

Regarding Cedar spring water, here's an excerpt from a recent trip report (10/28/08):

"Cedar Spring itself was beautiful, a stark contrast to its surroundings. It was filled with lush incense-cedar and white fir, tall beautiful healthy trees. We explored the area a bit, but didn't have time to explore as much as we would have like to. The bathtub receptacle of the hose from the spring had no water in it, but the stream had some water on its surface in places."

Great, knowing that I can fill out the free wilderness permit makes it easy and I know where the Forest Service office is in Idyllwild. Thanks for the reminder on the Adventure Pass.

When was the recent trip from which you quoted from the report? I would be interested in communicating with the person(s) who took the trip so I can pick their brain about the other water supplies. Thank you very much!
