i am doing skyline.

Myself, John M and Cathy U plan on going this Saturday too.

I may go up on Saturday, but have had an aching back for two weeks. I'll decide on Friday. What time is everyone leaving? I'll probably shoot for 5am if I do it...

I'm going to try C2C once again, but I won't be too disappointed if my body tells me to stop in Long Valley.

A super early start for me - sometime in the middle of the night.

Two or three of us are heading up on Sat Morning (we are all from SD). Heading to the summit and planing on spending the night and returning to the valley on foot unless we are to tired and beat up. See you guys on the trail.

We will stay at Tamarack or Round Valley depending on the amount of people. I think that we will leave our packs at the Round Valley Station and summit with some H2O, and then come back and fine a place to sleep. Any thoughts on this plan?

Sounds like a reasonable plan. You probably shouldn't have trouble getting an overnight Wilderness Permit this time of year, although I guess you should call the State Park and not take my word for it.

Most people don't do Skyline or C2C as a backpack, but there are a few highly fit people who have done it. It's a 10K+ gain day, which is pretty rough, period, and even more so with an overnight pack. You could have a very kind friend or two ride up the tram and have your heavy gear waiting for you. If you're an uber-hiker, you might want to carry it up Skyline with you. I know to the purist using the tram to port your gear up feels like "cheating." If you haven't done a lot of high gain (6,000+ feet per day) backpacking lately, you might want to consider doing it as a day hike and trying the BP another time. Have you done Skyline or C2C before? If you've done it a lot, you know exactly what you're in for, and you can ignore that last bit.
