Skyline Nov 1 or 2?

Howdy All

Is anyone doing Skyline this Saturday or Sunday? If I recall, Cy wrote he was leaving about 3 AM.

Saturday will be warmer for Skyline but a better day for the full C2C due to warmer weather on the summit. Sunday will be cooler for Skyline but not as good for C2C as there's a chance for snow on the summit.

I will be there on Saturday as you guessed, with someone I took up for the first time two weeks ago. The weather is just what I was hoping for.
I know of a few others going as well.

Maria and I left the museum at 2.40 am and took eight hours to reach Long Valley. Ellen passed us at Coffmans Crag and Scott at Long Valley. From the tram station we could see some snow on San Jacinto. More is expected tomorrow. If anyone is going up there tomorrow, please give us a snow report so we know what to expect on c2c next Saturday.
We met two first timers up there called Max and Leila who took pictures which I will post when they send them to me.
Once again thanks to Ellen for treating us to lunch at Las Casuellas, and to Ted and Maria for giving three of us a ride back to the museum.

There is supposed to be a bigger storm coming in Tuesday and/or Wednesday where the snow level should drop to 6000 or 7000 feet. For those who were planning on November 8th, we have to wait and see.

I went up to the summit from Humber Park today. There is no snow on the trail or summit.

I'm hoping to head up Skyline on Saturday (Nov. 8th), so I hope the weather allows it. The extended forecast looks good right now.

I was on skyline yesterday, sunday nov 2nd, we were in the shady, tree section around the traverse at around 1:30pm - and it was COLD. Cold wind swirling around. I had to change out of my sweaty shirt and thankfully I had a dry shirt and a pullover. I even put on a warm thermal hat. Season has definitely changed.

Howdy All

It was an honor to have lunch with Cy at the original Las Consuelas, especially after the failed attempt four weeks ago. I also enjoyed meeting and chatting with Ted and Maria.

I left at 4:30 and reached Long Valley in 6 hours. I was recovering from a sore throat and the heat and humidity made the bottom section very unpleasant. I passed three women near the picnic tables who were being lead by an experienced Skyliner named Diane. I passed Horace at 4400 ft -- he recognized me from this forum. It was nice to meet Max and Lelia on their first Skyline and connect with Cy and Maria at Coffman's Crag.

The temperature in Long Valley was perfect -- 50 degrees with a nice breeze and clouds. I had considered going to the summit but missed the company of my usual hiking buddies. The left shoulder strap of my daypack separated from the pack at Long Valley so the pack didn't hang right. I took that as a omen to head up to the tram, have a beer, and wait for Cy

I'm envious -- I loved the cool weather we had four weeks ago when you passed Karin and I at Shade Rock. I look forward to the cooler weather so that I can start hiking Skyline in the daylight.

Hope to see you again on Skyline this Saturday. The weather report does look good. If the forecast is correct, no snow will accumulate on the summit with the current system, which bodes well for Skyline.
