AlanK. Maybe you did not read his question about the rangers. Well, let me ask you, why do you think he wanted to know if anybody saw any rangers? Do you think he was planning a surprise group ranger picnic with sandwiches and watermelon and lemon aid somewhere on the trails? Seriously Alan.
And on a side note.
And go after us too? dates and pictures? What is that?

I was just saying that I thought that Jay had been very clear and define about what he meant by "except in the rare cases its just not feasible." Since the subject doesn't seem to die, I decided to point out that many of us have made similar decisions to the one Jay made.

Permit System is Broken

Postby fredjsandi » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:40 pm

The problem with the Humber Park/Devil's Slide permit system is that it is broke. There are supposed to be 30 permits with a maximum of 12 persons on a permit per day, or 360 persons max. However, rarely are there 12 persons on a permit, but there is no mechanism for increasing the number of permits when less then 12 use one permit.

There should be a system like on San Gorgonio where you can get the permit by fax in advance.

Oh really? :?
Mind providing a little explanation here please?

A few weeks later you gave some of your expert advice.
It sure seems to me to be a little inconsistent

Here's a guy with little children asking a board for advice on where to take his little tots camping.

Seems reasonable to ask this question and I am sure he expected some reliable advice that would include, how you say, "stay within the permit system"?

This is what you said.

hmmm. "Crystal Lake might be a bit much too. You'd drive to Islip Saddle, hike to Windy Gap, and then descend to Crystal Lake. Be discreet. I don't think you're supposed to be in there."

Is advising a parent with an 11 year old child and a 4 year old daughter to go camping in a posted closed sensitive area, within the permit system?

I couldn't forget your words "but I do encourage people to stay within the system."

And I couldn't find the words "be discreet" on the sign. (not even in the Spanish print)

I never did get any follow up after my response.
I do think you should be more responsible if you continue to give people advice on these boards. New people viewing what you say might think that the others agree with this crap.
I don't . Frankly it's complete bs.
So next time you wanna "come down" on me for standing up against people who violate the laws in the wilderness, take a quick look at your own words.

I'm FIGHT ON, and I approve this message! 8)
