Probable Snow and Ice Conditions on C2C mid March?

Postby Async » Fri Oct 24, 2008 1:18 pm

A friend and I are planning a hike up the C2C in mid-March. What snow and ice conditions are we likely to encounter?
I'm sure the conditions vary year-to-year and we'll bring crampons and ice axes to be on the safe side. But I'm curious...what has it been like up there the last few seasons in March?

Thanks!

It's pretty hard to predict what next March is going to be like, but I'd say there's a good chance there will be some snow and ice on the trail by the time you hit 7000' at that time of the year. At least I hope there will be some snow up there next March - I'd hate to see this drought continue much longer. Right now the forecast is for the drought conditions to last through the end of the year, so we might not see much snow for the next couple of months.

Aysnc,
You fool; what are you thinking?!!

Not renting a Harley this time?

Last year I called before BFR and the Park Office reported 5 feet at the top of the tram (~8500ft) and 9 feet and more beyond 10,000 feet.
Last year was not the wettest of years.

Who you gonna try and do it with?

ONON to Halloween

Rump,
EO and I are planning the big climb before Betty. Yep, no time for a Harley this year.
