Where did you hike this week end

High Sierra wasn't too bad. Cold, windy and ominous dark clouds but that didn't stop us from climbing Clarence King.

Fight On - 3.7 miles, so my overall speed was slightly less than 3.7 mph - pretty darn slow considering I ran a good 50 percent of the way.

Cy - We were lucky. I noticed how dark it was getting as I drove away on Saturday.

Kevin - Congrats on Clarence King! That weather forecast scared me away from the Sierra this past weekend - I'm a windy weather whimp.

Today (Friday) I went up the Devils Backbone to Mt Baldy from Manker Flats.
I started driving up at 4.30 am in a thick fog for a couple of thousand feet and drove back down into it at 10.30am. Upland and Claremont were completely covered in clouds from the summit which was very cold and windy. This was the first cool day this summer. i cant wait for the tram to start running again.
Tomorrow - the Bear Creek trail from Baldy Village.

Today I did Skyline for the first time in four months in the coolest weather since early April. The sun never came out until 9 am when I was at 7000 ft.
I started just before 2.30 am and reached Long Valley at 11 am. Five people passed me just before Long Valley including Mark who left at 5 am. We waited for Tina but she never showed. She left at 6.30 am if I understood Mark correctly. Thanks to Mark for getting me a ride back to the museum..
The Outdoorsclub had about ten people, none of whom we saw. They left at 4 am. When we reached Long Valley there was a strong cold wind blowing. I doubt if too many people reached the peak today. It was raining in Banning, Beaumont and Yucaipa on the way home.

i just got an e mail from Udi that some of their group reached the summit in 42F degree temperatures in a ferocious wind.
The first person I saw yesterday was a guy hiking down from Long Valley to the 4500 ft level and then going back up
If anyone found a ski pole near the picnic tables yesterday, please let me know.

Here is a trip report from Tim whom I met on Skyline last week. He had a close call on Big Iron which he was soloing from Baldy. He took some great pictures. I was on a midnight moonlight hike on Skyline (C2C) with 25 people from the Sierra Club.

Zippetydude was the only one that I recognised from this message board at the Tram Road Challenge. The first time this morning it took me 86 minutes. At the race it took 79 minutes. Not good considering that the record for the 70 - 74 yr old age bracket is 45 minutes. Next Saturday its back to Skyline at about 3.00 am. to see if I can better seven hours forty seven minutes. The best part today was that I never had to do any downhill.

I was there this morning. I walked it in 54:44. Which put me 17th among 50 - 54 year olds.

Howdy Cy,

You shouldn't feel bad about your time yesterday. I will be ecstatic if I can climb Skyline in less than 8 hours when I am 70. Heck, I will happy if I can even do Skyline when I'm 70

I did Skyline with Lance yesterday -- first time we've hiked it together since last fall. We left at 4:20 AM and it was still on the toasty side. We made it to Round Valley and decided we'd had enough fun in the great outdoors for the day.

Looking forward to seeing you and other Cyliners on the trail soon
