Mt. Baldy Run to the Top

Southern California and far-away places. Hiking, wildlife, cycling etc.

I'll be doing this race too for the first time!

After the start on pavement, the next 3.5 miles will be on fire road that lead up to Baldy Notch. This has a steady incline of ~ 9 % grade. The final 3.5 miles varies more, starting at the same steepness, then getting steeper, then flattening out for a stretch, then getting steep for the final ascent.

After several years of emails and phone conversations, I think it will finally happen.... Do you have a photo, or should I walk around yelling "Stan" at the start line? I can't remember where that one photo of you is where you are standing in the snow. Is that on your Smugmug account?

Ryan's VO2 max test:

VO2 max tests are fun!

I talked to Ryan and he can't do the race this year, but mentioned specifically to say hi to Perry and "barefoot" Larry if I see them. He said Perry will be fast and Larry will be, well, barefoot!

Don't think the guy standing on the floor is supposed to hold the guy on the treadmill.

Me either! That's a brutal test. Think I'll stick with the "Am I enjoying this?" test.

Hey Perry, good point. How will we recognize each other?

I don't know the area, but if there's some landmark where we can rendezvouz, that'll make it easy. Say, maybe show up at 7:45 at some specific place? To help out, I'll see if I can wear a brilliant yellow t-shirt I got in Hawaii. It's gaudy, but I'll be obvious anyway!

Some of us have met on the trail, so hopefully we'll recognize each other. Perry, I'll look for a guy walking around yelling "Stan!" :D

So, where's the starting line?

If the goal is to achieve complete exhaustion then it would have been better to have tied him up so he could stay on the treadmill. :D

Looks the same to me.
Maybe I'm not getting it. Maybe the only way to do it is to have them run on a HUGE treadmill so they can have no issues with staying on. Like the size of a basketball court. A TILTING BASKETBALL COURT! (with a mobius strip belt to last longer of course! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%B6bius_strip) Start them at half court and let them have plenty of room in every direction to slow down and not fall off. Leave them alone. Then when they stop running, fall down, yell I'm done, then turn it off.

well if anyone wants to meet each other at some point, i'll probably have some odd outfit on. short red shorts, blue tank top, high blue socks.

good luck!
