Where did you hike this week end

I could not believe how many people were training on the tram road early yesterday morning. When I first entered the race eight years ago it took me 58 minutes. Yesterday it took me 85 minutes.
Did you know that you pass 67 telephone poles on the way up.
The levee road (sand road) meets the tar road at about the half way point.
The creek is about two thirds of the way up. When you get to the welcome sign you have about 400 feet of elevation to go. The total length is three and three quarter miles with 2100 feet of elevation gain.

Cy: What time in the morning did you start up the Tram Road and how hot was it? I'd like to go give the road a try some morning, but I'm worried about the heat.

Kathy - I started at 4.45 am and was in shade the whole time up to the tram.
The temperature was approximately in the mid eighties when I started, and was about ten degrees lower at the tram.
On the way back the sun was out, and I got a ride back when I reached the creek, from someone who recognised me. I saw most of the people on the way back.
If you want to do it with me and save yourself from walking back in the sun, we can take two cars up and bring one back down. The gate at the bottom of the road opens at about 5 am.
I hope to see a whole bunch of you on Mt Baldy this Monday.

Kathy and I started at the bottom of the tram road just after 5 am - she jogged and I walked. The horizon had numerous lightening flashes.
It was a dark and stormy morning. Suddenly thunder burst forth but no screams rang out Half way up the road a refreshing light rain started but died out after a while. This would have been a good day for Skyline. We "ran" into Fernando near the tram who told us he had done c2c the Saturday before.

It really did turn out to be a nice morning yesterday on the Tram Road. It was already 86 degrees when we started up the road - about 5:30 am and it was humid, so it felt really hot to me. On the way up the road it started to rain and a breeze picked up and it felt great. It was 84 degrees when I headed home - cooler instead of hotter. That last section after the sign that says 2000' elevation is the hardest on the road. I did pretty good with a mix of slow jogging with walking breaks up to that point, but after that it was pretty much a walk - 64 minutes to get to the Tram Station doors from the gate at the bottom of the road. I was hoping for under 60 minutes, so I'll have to keep working on those hills.

KathyW. What was the distance that you covered in your time of 64 minutes?
I read Cy saying three and three quarters for some part of that road but is that the same distance that you timed yourself? Thank you.

Kathy - We were lucky with the weather. Here is a report about conditions above Idyllwild. I can imagine how bad it must have been in the High Sierras.
