Thanks for posting that link, Cy. It's a good read. I also enjoyed James D St Jean's TR of a Presidential Traverse, something I've done many times as I lived in VT before moving to CA.

Cy, ditto thanks for posting link. The author mentions on his web site that he's working on a climbing computer game; however, it appears that he shelved that project to pursue other interests. Nevertheless, the idea of a climbing game, maybe even a Skyline game, is intriquing.

Udi of outdoorsclub.org made it up to the tram yesterday in temperatures averaging between 85 and 88 degrees all the way up to the 7700 foot level.
He had the presence of mind to take only one other person who he knew could handle it. He started at 5.15 am and got to Long Valley around 3.20 pm. It was 107 degrees in Palm Springs. He usually takes six hours, but the heat and his friend slowed them down to ten hours.

I went up Timber Mountain from Icehouse Canyon. I am glad that i had a 5 am start because it was really hot on the way back to the 5000 ft level.
There is a race up Mt Baldy from Manker Flats on Labor Day (Sept 1st). I will leave at 6 am so I can get to the top just before the lead runners.

Hi Cy. Good start time. I started just a little after you (about 5:30) up Vivian Creek. Perfect day, as long as you start early! It was cool and beautiful going up, wonderful at the top, and didn't actually get hot even on the way down. I was lucky enough to beat the heat.

I saw a few folks heading up, but overall, the numbers were low. Maybe Sundays are less crowded, I usually go on Saturday.

Anyone else have a good weekend?

It sounds like it's been pretty hot out on the trails locally. I was in Colorado/New Mexico this past week enjoying a bit cooler temperatures and some rain. I did hikes to Mount Elbert and Mount Sneffels in Colorado and Wheeler Peak in New Mexico. On Friday I was going to hike up the Barr Trail to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado and take the Cog Train down (kind of like doing the Skyline Trail) but it was raining; so I just rode the train up and down the mountain.

My son(16) and I did Mt baldy under the full moon, Started 7pm, summitted 10:15, slept til 5am at the peak and headed down. Barely needed a headlamp at all

Glad to hear you made it up there.

I did san g. saturday and baldy yesterday. i was not moving so fast up baldy, my body was quite recovered from san g. but made it up.
