O'Donnell Overlook

I've been lurking on this forum, finally decided to register since I have a question.

Anybody know the story of the overlook and niche/tunnel above O'Donnell golf course in Palm Springs.
I've been told that someone wanted to bury his wife in the niche, but wasn't alllowed and so sealed it off. Sounds like urban legend to me; but I'm curious - what is/was it all for?

I visit PS a couple of times a year with my running club and that overlook is one of my favorite places that we go by occasionally.

I've heard you can peer in where one of the bricks is loose. A friend told me there's graffiti inside.

What you are describing was built back in the 30's I believe by Thomas O'Donnell. O'Donnell's home was built in 1925 and he died in 1944. Word from a desert rat is that it was constructed as a site for someone to lie in repose but never used. The overlook was used for various church services over the years.

The chamber goes back for about 30 feet and electric lighting was in place. It has been opened, vandalized and closed numerous times.
