Postby friendowl » Wed Jun 18, 2008 1:41 pm

this weekend my wife is taking me to palm springs
i plan on taking the tram ride and my question is

how far is hidden lake from the tram station.
is it worth checking out

i would like to have a lil picnic somewhere up there
i was thinking long valley or hidden lake???

can anyone recommend a nice place to hang out for an hour or so

would it be better to go on the first tram of the day or is it nicer later in the evening...

any input would be very much appreciated ?

They try to keep people out of that area since it is a fragile place. It's not marked and as its name implies isn't necessarily obvious as to its location. The day hikers were really ruining the area, so they (the state park rangers) basically pulled the plug on the area.

For a nice day hike, try doing the loop that heads from the tram to Round Valley, and then taking the trail that runs more to the south on the way back. If you want a bit more of a challenge, try heading up to Wellman's Divide which is a nice hike and has some great views. There's water available in Round Valley by the way, whereas the other location is often bone dry, brown, and pretty much a major let down.
