For those without much experience, we recently recovered a body of someone who slipped wearing "sneakers". It was interesting to note that the model of sneakers were labeled ALL TERRAINS
Whenever you step out on snow or ice there is the possibility of a potentially disasterous slip. On a recent SAR mission, a skilled rescuer slipped off the trail and after a slide of only a hundred or so feet, required a litter/C-spine/airlift out. We are all gun ho to do these hikes without carrying needless gear but please keep this in mind when making your decisions.
