overnighter this weekend

My wife and I are hiking from tram to lower basin camp this coming weekend. Is there a specific camp site that is a favorite that I should shoot for?

Also, are there some cool day hikes from that area? We do have a permit.

There's a good suggestion on the other post, "recommend a nice campsite" re. Tamarack. The junction referred to is at Round Valley (where there's a water pipe to get H20), not Wellman's Divide jct.

Day hikes can include San Jac pk, Wellman's Divide for an overlook, Saddle Jct. (if you want to meet people), or Strawberry Cienega or Jct. (but you'll have to climb back up 1,500 vertical ft. on return.
