I think you would be disappointed in how boring most of them were. A few were a tad interesting.

If anyone is offended by leftovers on this site, I can go back and do some more cleaning... The really bad ones were deleted, but I left some of the borderline ones. All were really insincere, but I generally try to err on the side of allowing free speech.

Well, just one man's opinion, but with a Troll, it's not legitimate speech. I'd delete every trace, but then again that would take your time.
The response to Jim and some of the other posts were mindless sniping. The worst stuff was bigoted or racist drivel. None of it is worth repeating. No need to give the guy a charge by letting him see it in print again.
Thanks Allan. That gives me enough. Just trying to get a read on how much of a sicko he is. I keep trying to figure out why someone would do that and I end up thinking it's not worth the time. You just have to expect that there will always be a certain percentage of freakos no matter what. The guy is like a piece of trash on a trail. Eventually you are gonna come across it. Ya just gotta stop and pick it up and put it in the garbage can. It's just too bad that Perry is one that has to do it.

At least it's not a condom or a dirty diaper. :D

Re: the above on the troll, etc--I'm not sure if Sven is real or the troll, but I dislike this remark that I am "mean-spirited". Here are the facts on the large ODC hike: I happened to do Skyline that day myself (I left at 6.30) and so I actually ran into the rescued guy, Carlo as he came down with two others. It is not correct to say "he doesn't count as a rescue" because he walked out on his own. Many rescues involve people walking out, since often this is the only practical way to get them out. It does not 'become a rescue' only if a helicopter is involved! In fact, a ranger had to hike down and bring him water, and two people were walking him down--the hike leader, and a non ODC guy named Mick who volunteered to help, who I later ran into up at the tram bar. I applaud the fact that both gentlemen took the guy down (that was truly kind of them) and i"m glad all returned safely. The ODC leader (I think his name is Verdi--if I've gotten it wrong please forgive me) is a very genial and pleasant man whom I chatted with briefly, and I could see he is a well-meaning man with a sincere concern for the sick guy. (indeed, he also asked me if I was ok, and wanted to make sure I had enough water. I did, but what I needed most at that moment was a cold beer :) ) I certainly mean no dis on his humanity, just his judgement in organizing this hike. Nor do I mean any dis on the ODC. I have many ODC friends and it's a system that works great--for small, fast groups of six or seven hikers who all know each other's fitness levels. For large, strenuous hikes, it's a rescue waiting to happen. Yes, any hike can have a problem, but, IMHO, because of setting up a large (30ish) extraordinarily strenuous hike with 'self-screening" participants, they were forced to descend at 10 am from 6000 feet on a 94 degree day with a man who was suffering from some kind of heat exhaustion. Mick described to me the descent as 'very sketchy'. This was not a good thing and if the man had not been young and strong could have been quite bad. Second: just before I made it to Grubb's notch, I found a woman who told me she was a "tagger'on' to the ODC hike. She had been on the trail ten and a half hours. Everyone else, much faster, had simply left this woman behind to find her own way through the treefall on the last 2000 feet. She had never done Skyline before and was bewildered and I think somewhat disoriented. She was so turned around she had to ask me where the tram was. Bottom-line, no matter how good-hearted you are (and I got the vibe that the ODC gent is a sweet guy--I now see why his friends defend him warmly :) ) it just isn't safe or responsible to organize a Skyline hike this way. It's simply too chaotic. It is fortunate nothing worse happened. And, I just do not see how pointing all this out makes me and HJ "mean-spirited"!!! Third: Steve Fausset, on the way up to Grubb's Notch, ran into the ranger, who was descending to help the ill man. The ranger was carrying multiple liters of water to give the sick man and was not a happy fellow. He told Steve Fausset that the rangers have had enough of the rescues and large hikes, and they are going to institute a PERMIT SYSTEM ON SKYLINE. On likely days, they will station a volunteer or ranger just below Grubb's notch (where the State Park boundary begins) to check permits.

Maybe he was just hot and disgruntled (and he was) but it seems we finally are going to get what we never wanted: permits on Skyline. I would be interested to hear from Guest and others who are closer to the officials if this rumor is true....if so, we are going to see some big changes.

I am going to take the summer off from hiking, so I urge you all to be safe and responsible in hiking during these next hot months, on Skyline or anywhere else. Remember we never want to put SAR people at risk without good reason. The wildlife you save may be your own! :)

I'd like to stick up for cynthia23 (whom I've never even met, but if I ever do she will now owe me a beer 8)). She may be tough in her assessments sometimes but her positions seem justified to me. I would certainly not call her "mean spirited." We should all be happy when she's wrong about a specific hike, but the circumstances she describes (time after time) suggest that luck is involved, and luck will not always be good.

Cynthia: Thanks for the report on conditions along the Skyline trail on Saturday.

This is a pretty interesting discussion - lots of references to penises- I won't be surprised if it gets deleted:

That is a nasty discussion, with or without the anatomical references. It makes me recall why it was go great to leave junior high behind.

Yes, a nasty discussion

I must say that I get temporarily lost fairly often when I'm wandering around in the wilderness.
