Postby Nano » Tue May 13, 2008 12:30 am

Just wanted to say that I will be hiking the Skyline Trail to San J summit 5/24 5-6am-ish and I hope to see some people out there! (understatement of the year)

I know that John Morgan of San Diego wants to go. If it is not that hot, I might go too, but it would be real early.

I'm planning on taking my boys up the 22nd or 23rd (we'll take the tram), and I'm trying to calibrate what the trail conditions are past Round Valley/Wellmans. What have you all heard? Boots good enough, or do we need gear (if so that cancels the top for us)?

Thanks in advance for any info.

conditions from tram to the summit

Postby phoenixhiker » Tue May 13, 2008 11:28 pm

Rob, I hiked with a group from Phoenix Friday May 9. We did the museum to the summit (first time) We encountered a lot of snow above the tram to the summit. It made the trail difficult to find, but we were ok in our trail shoes. No gear was required. You should be fine with another couple of weeks of hot weather. Have fun with your boys.

phoenixhiker - what time did you leave the museum and how long did it take to summit? I'm planning the same trip this Friday and plan to leave very early to beat the heat. Thanks.

Looks like Baldy is inaccessible this Sunday :( (IF ANYONE KNOWS OTHERWISE DO TELL!) I'll have to push my C2C hike one week ahead and attempt it this Sunday the 18th. Anyone heading out Sunday morning??
