thanks. That's helpful. I can appreciate the "sun bearing down makes it feel hotter" part.

as ps, historically it coolest at 7am (about an hour after sunrise)...I suspect it changes as sunrise gets earlier by june 21 and days get hotter)

I've been looking at the hiking weather here for a few months now. When I first found this site I couldn't understand the very early starts and wondered about night time temps. I use www.weather.com through habit and because it forecasts by the hour (no idea how accurate it is or if there are better resources). Here's tonight and tomorrow morning, whose pattern is typical with what I've been seeing:

Midnight 67
1am 66
2am 65
3am 64
4am 63
5am 63
6am 64
7am 66
8am 69
9am 73
10am 77
11am 80
noon 83

The forecast for tomorrow is a high of 90, but at the weekend it's supposedly going over 100.

thanks. I am biased towards relying on NOAA...(the PSP stuff is from gov't readings).

the part more confusing is the temps at the tram station; per their website. Most of the daytime hours its flat, sort of like the tropics...which of course makes no sense

I was just trying to fiddle w/ a hourly temp chart for the bottom and top, showing the elevations we better be at to beat the heat.

I'm half hoping its 100 down below so i can get my hiking partner up on the mtn early. We both grew up hiking the desert but i suspect our endurance has faded a tad.

Here are some actual temperatures from our last two May trips. We have had several others and experienced temperatures as high as the 90s, but those data are not in the spreadsheet I have easily available on this machine. These temperatures seem representative. The hottest C2C I recall was in late June. Our fastest trips were in the fall.

What about snakes? Don't they go somewhere like in holes at night? Then come out when it gets warmer/sunny. Is it less likely to run into a shake when the sun is down or low? More reason to start earlier?

fighton...yeah, funny thing is my climbing buddy read all the snake stories here and figures starting at 4am just enhances his odds of stepping on a rattlesnake, thinking waiting till daylight he can at least see them (though armed w/ headlamp anyhow)
