Marion Mtn Trail to Little Round Valley today 4/13/08

Just a quick trip report.

Had to park at the gate 1/4 mile below the trailhead. Forest service is doing logging in the area. The trail at the beginning is a mess. Hard to find for about 3/4 of a mile.
After that it was ok. Forgot how steep it was!!!
I had to turn around about a mile after the trail intersects with the Deer Springs trail, due to very icy conditions. It appeared that nobody has been up much past the intersection for weeks and I didn't want to get lost.
Great hike, a bit to short for me!

Thanks for the conditions update - I haven't been up Marion in a while, but I do remember how steep it is - that trail is a really good workout.

Hi Kathy,

What I like about this trail is, first, it's one of the best high altitude cardio-workouts , shortest distance from home (I live in San Diego), that you can get on a day off. I don't have too many of those!
I try to stay in shape year round. This year I did Whitney 5 weeks ago and will be up there again in August with a local group, and in September with a group from Germany.

Anyway thanks for your post and "frohes Wandern" (happy hiking)
