Wonder if any of you came across the lavender, purple-colored shooting star flowers in the San Jacintos. Well here's a spot. Back in 97, I hiked the Fuller Ridge trail back to Idyllwild in the early summer and came across a little creek below south face of Folly Peak. It was here where clusters of these shooting star flowers were dotted along the creek, and my goodness, they were so beautiful, but of course, I did not pack a camera!!! So my question is, does anyone know the name for this type of Shooting Star flower?

Hi wolfdog. What you saw was either

scented shooting star (Dodecatheon redolens)

Thanks Someguy, defenitely looks like the purple rodelons with the yellow tips that I saw. Also heard from a source that there were another, or the same species up in a place called Bud's Meadow, below Marion Mountain (approx. 10,000 ft). Went up there back in 97 but didn't see any, maybe because it was late summer,and past blooming stage. Other than that, what a treasure it is to see these flowers.
