Tram to Summit, Saturday 3/22/08

Dave G and I took the first tram up and had a Very "Good Saturday," the day before Easter on Mount San Jacinto. Actually, it was perfect!

The weather was awesome... in the 60's and a gentle breeze kept us from getting too hot. A first for both of us on the summit and it couldn't have been prettier. The snow was in good condition, though while hiking up Jean Mountain we did negotiate some blue ice under a couple inches of fresh snow from last weekend. After ascending Jean, we donned our crampons for the hike to the summit and removed them when we hit softer snow in the flat on the way back

Ran into friends Sara, Frank and Jason at the Tram Restaurant. They had climbed up Snow Creek with a group that day.

We finally made it to the top Cy! Maps and GPS kept us on track.

Hmm, lotsa snow up there still (snow on Baldy is melting fast). I wonder if I have time for another hike in the next few weeks?

They did Snow Creek in one day. I think Sara told me that they started out around 2:30a.

One day. They started at 4am and summited at 2pm, 10 hours. Dave has a picture of them that he'll be posting.

Sorry about the time confusion. I thought Sara mentioned it took 10 hours. No matter what, their ascent was WAY better than ours.
They rocked. We rolled.

10 hours up Snow Creek is amazing. I never thought anyone could be faster than Rick Kent who took twelve hours two weeks previously even though he took a lot of pictures.

How hard is it to follow the trial to Wellman's Divide? Or do you follow a straighter path to the summit?
