Wildflowers and desert peaks

Hi Fight On
Rather than calling them yellow and purple flowers, I guess I could call them Lupine and ??? Do you happen to know the name of the yellow flowers in my avatar?

Long time ago I used to hike with a member of the Sierra Club (Bob Frampton) that new the names of any flowers we ever encountered. Since I was young and nieve at the time, I never learned their names...maybe now in my "Golden Years" I should get a book on flower identification since I spend more time on the ground in the winter and spring instead of hanging on rock and ice.

I don't know the yellow ones. I don't know very many other than favorites.
I agree it would be nice to know all the names of the flowers at least around Southern Cal. I am still working at the different pine trees I see as well as all the other plants. I gotta get a book with good pictures. Or maybe we can plan a hike with Bob Frampton. FIGHT ON

Hey Fight On, I guess I do know a few botanical things...Pinus Ponderosa (the only tree I know, I wonder why?).

I could be wrong but I'm not sure if Bob is still alive. Does anyone on the list know? I haven't seen him in like 25 years and he was elderly back then.

Oh yea, I do know one sage, Artemesia Tridentada. Not sure if that is the correct spelling but a climbing friend (now a naturalist ranger in the Tetons) tried to teach me (again back in the 70s) and it always seemed like I got amnesia when it came to those names. I looked at the thing and thought three lobes on the leaf (a trident) and I have amnesia with names. Whatever works I guess.

RickM and Fight On, I think the yellow ones are called Desert Gold. By end of the season I'll know all these flowers, and by spring next year I'll forget and have to relearn it all! I get that amnesia too. And Rick, I remember names like you do. Whatever works!

I'm off to Mammoth tonight, but back in the desert the following week!

Granite Peak, Mojave National Preserve

Spring forward . . . we lost an hour today! I found out I lost my month old Garmin Vista! We did Granite Peak, up a more interesting way than the DPS guide showed and straight down to make it a loop trip. It was a fun climb, but not many flowers out.

Astrohound went with me to look for my GPS, which was almost 90 miles out of the way. We also had to get gas to get there. No luck! Hope someone knows to look for me if found.

We went a different way than described in Zdon's which made it more interesting
