Villager/Rabbit Dayhike

Postby Dave G » Mon Feb 18, 2008 6:59 pm

Well, at 17 hours we certainly didn't beat Travis' (thanks for the waypoints!) time, but Cori (Snow Nymph) and I sucessfully dayhiked Villager and Rabbit Peaks on Saturday. The weather was perfect and we spent nearly an hour on both peaks basking in it. The route-finding is pretty straightforward, but for safety's sake we wanted to be back to Villager (the second time) by dark and we just made it. To our surprise, someone has placed tiny reflective stickers every so often on tree branches to guide you down. Not completely necessary, and maybe not environmentally responsible, but I have to admit that my tired eyes were appreciating them as the hours wore on!

All you folks hitting Rabbit and Village a week before my trip have been very helpful. For example, I can see there is snow at Villager where we intend to spend the night. Good to know.

I could monitor your progress by checking the timestamps in the EXIF headers in your photos.

Villager Pk, Rabbit Pk, Villager Peak dayclimb

DaveG and I dayclimbed Villager Peak, Rabbit Peak, back to Villager and out (on less than 3 hrs of sleep). This was the longest dayclimb I've ever done, with the most elevation gain in a day ever. GPS said 24.1 mi with 8,400' gain before it turned off 2.69 mi from the trailhead. (I think its listed as 21.2 mi with 7900' gain). There was Sierra Club group behind us, led by Mars Bonfire! I've seen his signature in countless registers, and finally got to meet him! How cool is that!!!
