New Book on Palm Springs Trails

Hey, Halhiker, do you recall the title of the Whitney book that you're referring to?

The book is Mount Whitney Guide for Hikers and Climbers by Hellweg/McDonald. It was published in 1990 so I don't know if it's still in print but what I liked about it is that it covered the Whitney Trail mile by mile and had the three main climbing routes--Mountaineers Route, East Face and East Buttress--plus the rescue chapter. It made it very clear that even though tons of people hike to Whitney it is very dangerous to do so unprepared. After reading about several people dying up there it might make the novice hiker take heed and exercise due caution. A similar tale about Skyline might do the same.
