jim,

clearly you have a lot of time on your hands (and a pretty good sense of humor, too).

Ellen, you have a lot of willpower! And a great sense of humor. This board wouldn't be the same without you. Glad to have you back on board.

I replaced the sardines you ate and also put some black licorice and vegetable soup in the shelter. Any popular foods would likely get stolen. And no, they do not require can openers. :D

Glad you're better

I guess better is a relative term but I'm glad you're back on the board and on the road to healing.

I felt terribly about your accident since I'd hoped to accompany you on the outing and ended up spending the day with the family (wrong choice for other reasons: we went to the Palm Desert street fair and were the only people there under the age of 75).

Our family had you in our prayers and our kids prayed for you safety. I also felt badly that I thought that crampons would not be needed and had you brought some it may have made a difference.

One thing that happened was I had a very vivid dream about you being rescued and was very disappointed when I woke up and that had not come to pass. I was following along on the board and considering joining some others on the search but by the time I got my kids dropped off at school the word was posted that you'd been found in the summit hut. A dream come true for everyone.

Get well soon because next time you are looking for a partner for an adventure I don't think my wife will allow me to do anything else on that day. She can take the kids to the street fair on her own.

Good to have you back on the board, Ellen!

When you’re better, I’m going to hold you to your commitment to come and visit RMRU and consider joining the team. The rest of the team is eager to meet you, and hear your heroic tale firsthand.

Perry: Last Wednesday the Sheriff’s Office asked me how we go about restocking the summit hut. When I told them it was already handled, I got a puzzled look, then the reply: “Cool! Less paperwork for us to do…”

Thanks for all you do (all of you)!

Hi Ellen,
I'm glad I've come to know you better, and I'm confident you'll be back in action before we know it!
Look forward to a get-together for all of us!

Howdy Ellen, good to see that you're lettin' your fingers do the walkin'! Welcome back!!! As for HJ's various titles--all are hilarious, but I especially like Sardines on Mt. San Jacinto and Chillin' With Ellen.

This calls for a party, and I will soon be posting on that very subject ....

The discusison of restocking the hut reminds me of the most unusual food-related item I've seen in the backcountry. It was in the Mt. San Jacinto hut. Someone had left a half-finished beer sitting around. (I did say "half-finished." That should be a felony in itself!) When we saw it, there was a dead (agile but stupid) mouse inside, just floating around. Protein. Carbohydrate. Fat. Vitamins. Minerals. A complete diet for the stranded hiker. Luckily, we were only peeking in, not stranded.

We'll definitely need to have a few "San Jacinto Specialties" on hand at any future in person gatherings. A cream of mushroom taste off, a sardine eating contest, etc.

March is a wonderful month but hopefully not too close to April 5 (my wedding day) or March 15 (bachelor party). :) Actually, do what you need to do. There's no such thing as a date that works for everyone.

Ellen:

I'm so glad to hear you're on the mend. Now you be good about those weight bearing precautions! You want this monster to heal right the FIRST time. Don't make me come down there to be your PT!!

Hmmm... party?? What else could possibly tempt me to return to lala land???

Much love from B-town from the CA Moose!
