Hi Tina. It sounds more confusing than it is. What ss is saying is that the congestion may block the way unless you take an almost identical route, but scoot over one block to your right as you're coming in.
Click on the map link ss posted, then tell it to search for
101 N Museum Dr, Palm Springs, CA
It will open a pop up window so you can look back and forth from this to the map. The green arrowhead is the museum. If you're facing the museum, the trail will be on your right. (It's pretty obvious once you're there - just walk over to the right side of the parking lot.)
If you use the little hand to grab the map and scroll just a little, you can pull the map so that the green arrow goes right to the edge of the bottom of your screen. Look towards the top, and you can see where Alejo cuts in from N Palm Canyon Drive. You'll just turn there, then make the first left onto Belardo. Note that Belardo curves to the right just before the museum. At that point you're almost there, as it is just turning into Museum Drive. Once you see the museum (it will be on your right) - you can flip a u-turn (now it's on your left!

) and park on the street across from the museum. Some folks park in the museum lot and I've never heard of it being a problem, but at 6:00 a.m. you'll have your choice of places to park. Later, when you're leaving, there will probably be a ton of congestion farther into town, so you'll probably want to leave by the same route you come.
Hope that helps! Incidentally, did you decide Saturday or Sunday? The first part of the trail can be confusing, and it's nice when there are other people out there. If you don't see anyone, do not despair. The rule of thumb I use (when I'm doing it in the dark) is when I see a split, stay to the right. If you see white spray painted dots on rocks, they mean you're going the right way. You can see back down to Palm Springs during the part that's confusing, so it's impossible to get lost there. It can be frustrating if you find yourself going back down when you've accidentally gotten on a little spur or onto the trail coming up from the left over at Ramon, but that's about the extent of it.
Have fun! If you're going Saturday, I might bump into you. I'm still waiting for a trail report on San G to see which way I ought to go this weekend. How nice for us, that we get to choose between a cold, snowy trail or a nice, warm summer-like trail, either one just a little way from home. Amazing, huh?
