Hi people,
Just remember there will be 8,000 cyclists! & friends downtown for the Tour de Palm Springs, some streets will be blocked, or have delays, registration opens at 6am on Palm Cyn between Baristo & Ramon.

Your early start should miss most of it.

Kind of you to post that ss, probably save any Skyliners a bit of frustration with the traffic. It was nice running into you last night at the hospital - and great to see Ellen in such good spirits. I don't know how long til she hits the trail again, but she's already considering which crampons she'll use next time . . .!

Incidentally, do you think the event will be blocking traffic down as far as the museum? I've never been to the event, so I don't know how far the congestion stretches. Clearly it will affect the Ramon trailhead. Any thoughts?

Hi, I've been lurking on this site for about six months now. I moved to Palm Springs from LA in January 2007 and have thoroughly enjoyed hiking the local trails. My goal last year was to make it to the tram but reading the threads here showed me how prepared one must be to do so safely. I hope to make it in 2008, but will wait until the snow clears and prior to the extreme heat. I have no desire to be rescued!

I've hiked from the museum many times up to around 3000', but no further. Also made it to the summit from the tram, which was fairly comfortable. I'd like to hook up with some groups here at some time. I'm interested in a hike this Sunday, but I have a commitment in the morning so couldn't start until around 11am.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Marknhj, and welcome!

If you have a chance to try out Skyline a few times as an out-and-back adventure, I would encourage you to do so. It's a real challenge, so it's nice to be familiar with part of the trail before you try the whole thing later on.

Tina: I might be out that way myself - I haven't decided if I should try for San G Peak in the snow (it's awfully hard that way) or if I should pop out and take a little trip up Skyline or the PCT this weekend. If I'm on Skyline, I hope we have a chance to meet. Same for you, Marknhj.

By the way, Marknhj, I think the term "troll" makes a lot of sense, in that it aptly describes a nasty creature that seems to pop out of no where just to annoy others. On the other hand, "lurker" sounds somehow sinister, and you don't seem sinister at all. :) I wonder if the internet will spawn a new, more positive sounding term for an innocent observer of a board?

Anyway, I'm glad you've had a chance to post so we can meet you. Keep us updated with your experience on Skyline - it's always fun to hear when a new person has a chance to explore the trail for the first time.
