C2C…finally

Postby nobohiker » Mon Dec 06, 2021 9:17 pm

NorCal Hiker here. I have been on several gorgeous hikes near and on San Jacinto in the past, including a winter stay on top of the mountain in the emergency hut with plenty of snow outside. I have not been back for a many years, but certainly missing SJ so I finally made plans for C2C this Saturday. So much looking forward to that hike…

Apologies for the random ramble without any useful content, just couldn’t resist sharing my excitement :D

Hi nobohiker,
It's always exciting to plan on a real suffer-fest, (kiddin). I'm sure you've gathered reams of info, but I usually carry close to a gallon to the tram, (yes, in cooler wx less is doable, but I drink a lot and don't like seeing my performance suffer without adequate fluids). Part of that being electrolytes to avoid cramping. Pace, pace is what works best for me, using as little energy as possible, and not taking some of the steeper short-cuts.
Not sure if they still have lockers at the top, (mt. station), but if your continuing to the summit, you could store clothing & food in there, if you don't mind the grind up the walkway.
Post some pics if possible, have a great climb. ss

Will this little storm bring snow do you think? Or at least snow one would have to worry about on the traverse or at the top?

I’m thinking this storm we have today isn’t going to bring a considerable amount of snow. Couple inches at most. Next Tuesday is the one I’m waiting on, could bring a foot+ of snow at 10k. If I were doing c2c this weekend I’d probably chance it without spikes, but it wouldn’t hurt to take them

Just looked at the tram cam. 29 degrees and maybe an inch on the picnic table in view.

Anyone knows the conditions at the Traverse after the latest storm?
