Open C2C Invite 5/23/21

Postby Jimbozeubuen » Tue May 18, 2021 6:16 am

Hello,

I did C2C on 5/8/21 and 5/16/21 with a friend who's very knowledgeable about Skyline. I would like to do it again on 5/23/21, but he's not available and none of my other friends are interested. I could do it solo, but would rather have some company just in case. So I would like to extend an open invite to anyone here who might want to join me. Here's my plan for 5/23/21:

1. Start from museum trailhead at 5:30.
2. Finish Skyline before 9:30 (hard push for me).
3. Reach summit before 12:00 (taking it easier).
4. Back to tram before 1:30 (slow jog downhill).

The splits are similar to my times from the 2 previous weeks. I consider myself to be a power hiker - slower than most runners but faster than most hikers. I plan on taking only 2 breaks - a few minutes at the ranger station and a few minutes at the summit. I'm 35 years old and fully vaccinated if that matters!

Jim,

Since the 23rd is Sunday, and the current NWS temperature forecast for Palm Springs on Sunday is a comfortable Low 62/High 90, I suspect there will be plenty of people on the trail. But few if any who can match your pace. Normally, I think someone who has done the trail twice is comfortable with the route, but at your speed it may have been a blur!

Ed,

Thanks for the info. I think even after doing it twice recently I still find the trail pretty confusing at certain sections, such as below the picnic tables and at the traverse. If I go solo I would probably take things slower and check GPS more often!
