Is there water in the Tarn on San Gorgonio?

Postby zippetydude » Mon Jul 01, 2019 6:19 pm

This might be the one time in my life that I get to see water in the Tarn...maybe just a wish, but at least it's a maybe! If anyone knows, let us know! If I get up there I'll post pics and try to give the best route - with all the snow, the melt might fill the tarn, but it also may be making it all but inaccessible....

I'm doing an overnighter up on San G next week. I will take a peek and find out for you. It would be a sight to see as I have NEVER seen water in the Tarn!

Hey Zip! I went to the Summit via Dollar Lake and intended to hike down the next morning via the airplane crash trail, but someone told me there was still a substantial sketchy patch of snow going that way. Soooo....just for you, after I pitched my tent at the summit, I walked all the way to the edge of the summit to where you can look over the edge to the Tarn. Alas, I did not see any water down there, but maybe a small rivulet.
I would post a pic if I could figure out how. I will post a TR with pics on FB.

Thank you Sally! Turns out I'm going to have to be out of town this weekend, so in a silly way I'm almost glad because I would have hated to miss the opportunity. I appreciate your extra hiking for my benefit! I would have always wondered...

It was my pleasure walking to the edge of the Summit. I saw a cool spot a bit out of the way where I might pitch my tent next time!
