Last year they said Santa was resting in one of the igloos that someone had built Last year Perry photographed Snow Slugs This year they are naming a large snow peak in Kyrgyzstan - Mount Santa Claus to increase tourism
http://news.aol.com/story/_a/mount-sant ... 4009990034 I will be hiking down below on Skyline for a couple of hours and then taking the tram up. See you all in the snow.
I think I'm going to skip the tram ride on Sunday and do a hike out to Sheep Mountain in the Santa Rosas - I won't even have to think about snowshoes at elevations of 5141' and less.
Anyone planning to be on the summit for the first sunrise of the new year?
I've done it in the past (when the weather co-operates, of course!). I've got Dec 31 off from work, might give it a go for an overnight campout in Round Valley or Tamarak Valley. It gets a little chilly up there at dawn, but its pretty spectacular when the sky is clear.
There was two inches of snow and ice at Long Valley in the sun and quite a bit more in the shade. It was 18 degrees F up there this morning at 8.30 am
and the high is expected to reach only 36 degrees
