C2C - Friday 27

Postby ahousser » Tue Nov 24, 2015 6:08 pm

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some advice on doing the C2C this Friday the 27th. Unfortunately, the ranger station is closed Wednesday/Thursday, so they will be unable to answer my questions. I would really appreciate if anyone has input on the following:

- Does anyone have a good sense of the conditions up there at the moment? Do avalanches pose a large threat at this time?

- Are snowshoes necessary? I have crampons and ice axe. Can rent snowshoes if absolutely necessary, but would prefer not to.

- Is there camping anywhere near the C2C trailhead? Even just a parking lot where I can sleep in the car?

I think I've got a good grasp of the trek otherewise.

Thanks a lot!

Hey Alex,

I am far from an expert but just did most of C2C earlier this month. Check out the Long Valley Tram Cam: http://www.pstramway.com/long-valley-cam.html

This will at least show you if any snow is on the ground....right now it looks like no. There is a parking lot across from the Art Museum that is open 24hrs....not sure if Palm Springs PD appreciates people sleeping in cars, but I guess you can kinda cover up or hide....I prefer a cheap motel. Good Luck....Dan

Howdy Alex :)

There is new snow in Long Valley today and likely new snow on the trail from Long Valley to the summit.

The Tram weather report indicates very cold weather (high of 21) and a possibility for new snow in Long Valley on Friday.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen
