Normally I try to maintain some degree of sympathy toward lost souls because I've done profoundly stupid things out there--, but getting lost on the Bump and Grind??? Seriously??? Even at night and unintentionally off trail, you could just keep (slowly and carefully) descending the slopes toward the bright lights of the big mall directly underneath!

Perhaps I''m missing some vital detail, but this just seems totally crazy to me.

Thanks for posting, Cy.

I've only done the Bump a couple of times, so I may have a limited understanding of the terrain out behind the trail, but it does seem like you could just go back toward the obvious glow on the horizon. The whole trail is only what, maybe 2 or 3 miles up to the gate? I'm stumped on this one too.

Yeah, it's like calling 911 for a rescue because you're lost inside Macy's.

But to be fair maybe there is some factor here we aren't aware of--people were sick, elderly, kids?

Still, it's puzzling. :?

Elderly? Not possible. In the desert, mountains, or waves we are never old. Time stops. We become eternal as these places are.

I am afraid that some people have lost this sense. Somehow they are strangers in such places, and dialing 911 is phoning home for them. And their homeland terrifies me.
