Flat Rock at 10 am on Saturday sounds good.

Howdy Jim and Walt :D

After I posted about meeting Cy at Flat Rock at 10 AM, I realized that I should have written this:

Celebrate Cy's birthday by enjoying the San Jacinto wilderness this Saturday and meeting at Las Consuelas (Walt's directions) at about 2 PM. In addition to Skyline, San Jacinto provides mutliple hiking options from the tram.

I'm looking forward to enjoying Walt's barbecue in the future 8) However, I didn't want to saddle him with the responsibility/burden of preparing and hauling barbecue and beverages up to Long Valley so soon after Thanksgiving.

I'm speaking for myself when I say that I need to hike Skyline after Thanksgiving  I will, however, probably grab a quick beer at the tram bar around 1 PM.

It looks like the high on Saturday will be around 73 with a low of 51 -- perfect Skyline weather.

I think enough people are going to be able to leave cars at the tram. Then, we can transport people to Las Consuelas and back to the museum.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

Michiko is very petite and does not handle cold well at all. Looking at the NOAA NWS site, it looks like the high will be in the 40's which would be really cold for her. Maybe the tram is out for this Saturday.

Yes, we are the odd couple aren't we? lol

What else is around there that would be warmer? Obviously J Tree, but I think that's still out there a ways past PS. How about the Big Morongo Preserve? I've heard good things about it. Suggestions appreciated.

I am sorry it took so long. I am easily distracted and tried to do too many things these past few month. The newly added pictures probably look the same as the others posted on 8/13/2007 and don't make any difference to anyone but for me and possibly you. lol.

And... I am tagging along with Verdi and his group up Skyline on Sunday 12/02/2007.

Hi Jim,

Give me an idea of what you are looking for in a local hike and I'd be happy to give you some specific suggestions of Palm Springs local hikes from Jean's perspective.

This part cracks me up:

I'm looking for something on the order of 2 to 4 hours long that would be relatively warm that's not too far from PS. It would be better still if it were sheltered from wind. I think cold Santa Anas are supposed to be blowing in for the weekend.

I've thought of Palm Canyon, Big Morongo Preserve, and J Tree, although J Tree may be a bit more driving than I want to do.
