Planning 1st CTC Attempt (which weeks in Oct. are best?)

Postby bachmanmw » Wed Jul 08, 2015 8:24 am

I'm planning on attempting CTC this Fall, in October. Are there any specific weeks/weekends in that month that offer a better chance of success? I know weather can't be predicted accurately that far out, just want to learn from those who've made October attempts in the past. Any adivce is greatly appreciated!

Generally the later in October the better the weather is, so towards the end of the month would be your best bet. Even if it rains, which is unlikely but we usually get our first storm sometime in October, but even if it does it only makes the trip nicer, so you really can't go wrong.

That being said, I'd heartily recommend going on Sunday, September 27th if that would still work for you. Why? There's a full lunar eclipse that starts that night before the moon rises, which means that a dark red "Blood Moon" will rise slowly in the east starting at 7:47 pm. You could relax at the tram after you finish your hike, and take in the awesome spectacle to conclude your day with a bang. (BTW the tram is down for maintenance a couple weeks each year in September, but is scheduled to re-open September 26, so you should be fine in that respect). Anyway, just a thought!
