ok, now I see what burned yesterday... :?
that NE LOBE really took off after they had to shut down for the Drone problem.

past Onyx plenty of fuel and the largest Joshua Trees still alive

The fire didn't get over the Bighorn Ridge or Summit!!?? according to this map!
I really like the brush on the south side of Bighorn myself!
keeps the area under-used and pleasant!

and this wreck hasn't burned yet

Attack of the Drones!

Postby Pitownpi » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:53 am

http://www.z1077fm.com/drones-blamed-for-increase-in-fire-the-latest-fire-information/

Even on the Sterling Fire which BTW is 100ac and 50% contained...they'll have it out soon :D

"Drones temporarily halted tanker operations, but operations soon resumed. One drone was interfering with fire operations and has not been located. A second drone was reported by a concerned citizen and it was located. After reviewing the footage it was determined that it was not interfering with fire operations."
http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4326/

consider:
the time wasted to have someone go and review the footage is a ridiculous distraction.
drones pose an unacceptable danger to pilots&flying and surrounding communities who are watching the DC10's do some amazing stuff to save those communities.
The time they have to shut it all down and let the fire burn when the only way to fight such extreme rugged and inaccessible Lake Fire was with aircraft.

Hear, hear.

The fire has burned up to nearly 10,500 on the flanks of Bighorn Mountain which is immediately south of San Gorgonio Mountain. I really hope the dwarf forests up there don't burn. It' would be centuries before they'd come back.

Good news is that the perimeter within the SGW hasn't grown much. There is however a lot of active burning going on. And the fire has made major north and east expansions outside the wilderness.

Evacuation Lifted...one home burned when drone shutdown air

Postby Pitownpi » Mon Jun 29, 2015 11:41 am

"The home and outbuildings, owned by Diane Best on Burns Canyon Road, burned Wednesday when the illegal drone flying in the area grounded all the firefighting aircraft with fire retardant and water."

Although my emotions about the Lake Fire lie in the "heart-broken, sick to my stomach, grieving" realm, the whole drone incident has left me in the "extremely angry, wanna kill someone" realm.

for everyone of 'us' who are devastated at such a loss.....
there's 1000's more who don't really care,
and are more concerned with watching drone footage!
Some are more worried about what they'll do next weekend & are tired of hearing about fires?

but it should be broadcast from every media stream
An opportunity to raise awareness about the risk of wildfires even more!
. just think there is so much that can be done to prevent this.
with current situation, the next fire is just around the corner.
seems to me; all open fire pits would have been removed in California by now.?
i know it's a cultural thing to burn stuff, cook over fire, get warm, watch stuff burn,
we've been doing it for 1000's of years.

IMHO between sawtooth/millard, Barton flats, Mountain fire, etc....I'd said enough has been culled locally?

anyone do the math?
how much SGW wilderness is unburnt?

BTW...it's still burning trees as we speak inside the perimeter.
that perimeter containment number will stall as now it's so inaccessible
small fires on perimeter going for another 1-2 weeks?
