Lake Fire (Barton Flats)

Lake Fire near Jenks Lake on InciWeb .. http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4302/

As of last night the San Gorgonio wilderness is closed as is the Jenks Lake road. The webcam image this morning does not look good .. http://www.bensweather.com/benscamsang.php

Lots of smoke visible from Palm Springs drifting eastward.

Yeah. It doesn't look good from Yucaipa either. Hoping it stays in the flat area along 38...it would race uphill if it got on the steep slopes :(

it's blotted out the skies in the high desert and pretty strong smell, flashback sawtooth fire.
winds have been strong until last night, supposed to pick up again today.

I wouldn't read too much into those MODIS fire "spots". The IR sensors on satellites aren't particularly precise. They're going to pepper the area around the actual fire.

But it's still a very ugly and serious fire.

Yikes. KESQ just updated fire to 7500 acres, still 5 percent contained.

Inciweb is showing another fire on San G on its map, but that's just left over from May when there was a small fire by Fish Creek. It's not active. It fooled me for a minute so I thought I'd post so it doesn't scare anyone else.
