Was planning to camp at anza borrego tomorrow night

Postby backpackpack » Thu May 14, 2015 3:16 pm

Hello all, I was planning to car camp out at palm canyon tomorrow night, but the rain has put some uncertainty in my plans.

Should I abort the mission?

It's only supposed to rain til around 10 or 11, then be clear the next morning. I'd say it will be beautiful...as long as you don't camp down in a wash : )

There you go. Get there early next Friday. Memorial Day weekend you know.

Oh dagnabbit! Well this is bittersweet. I have been so busy at work I forgot we have a holiday on Monday, but I will probably have to go camping the following weekend. I was planning to go after work Friday, but even if I got there early I don't really want to go when it's all crowded.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess this will be a beach weekend!

Good idea. No one goes to the beach on Memorial Day weekend.

Yuk yuk. : )

BTW, a few years ago I did San Gorgonio on Memorial Day and was the only person on the top of the mountain when I got there at around 9:00 a.m. How weird is that?

Not where I go! I park around the TP Golf Course, it's a 2 mile hike down to the beach so that keeps most people away. Even at 12 or 1 pm on 4th of July I have no trouble, it's great!

I think people don't want to spend all day at the beach and then walk 2 miles to their car.

Oh, I thought you meant since it's going to be crowded everywhere I might as well enjoy the beach since it's never empty anyway...but with Torrey Pines I understand what you mean. I was down in San Diego for a conference a few years back and I came across Torrey Pines by accident - I had never even heard of it before then. I found myself wandering all over the place on the winding trails and the narrow beaches with cliffs towering above them...really cool place, and the difficulty of access does limit it's use. Nice idea for a quiet time on such a busy weekend.

I love walking down there on summer holidays with my fins and mask so I can do a little diving and body surfing. I also do this on non-holidays :D
