Wellman's Divide from Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

Postby nansterz1 » Mon Feb 23, 2015 2:15 pm

Hi All,
Heading down to Palm Springs for the first time the end of next week and was hoping to do the hike from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to Wellman's divide. I'm not a hiker at all, but am fit. Any feedback on the intensity of the hike, current weather and if weather conditions will allow it (i.e. is there snow to contend with)?

Thanks in advance!

That's a good walk, not too technical. But yesterday's storm may have brought some snow, and if you can't see the trail, it can be a tough time. Plus, there's the altitude to deal with. I'd suggest trying to view the web cam from the tramway website or calling the Rangers for condition updates.

I did the hike yesterday. There was about 4 inches of snow at the start and about a foot at Welman's Divide. It was warm today and will be for a few days and then another storm is predicted for Saturday. Depending on snow melt and freezing, microspikes may be needed by the end of next week.
Happy Trails!
