Martinez Canyon Trail access

The spot that Hal marked is the way i've always driven to Martinez Canyon. Is there a different way?

Most people go down Van Buren.

There's a way around the closure for now. It's not as good as the normal way and requires more clearance than your typical SUV or Subaru but at least it works until the powers that be—the BLM or the county—get our right-of-way back open. It's on Avenue 66 between the Fish Trap parking area and Van Buren.

So, you drive over a big berm or some other obstruction along 66th? I don't recall anyplace where it looked like you'd be able to drive off 66th, but I'll look again next time I'm out that way.

I guess there is a berm. This is looking south from Ave 66 at point B on Hal's map. I haven't been there for a couple years ..

There's not really a berm there, just an opening. I actually looked that way when I went to Van Buren and thought I'd go back but I skirted the closure by going East and then across the desert and came out that way. The way I went in is not recommended. There are some good sized rock I had to go over in the wash and figured most people would need a higher clearance vehicle to get over them. The sand is also fairly deep in a couple places. Overall, it's not bad but not as good as Van Buren.
