I think that's wise, Calihiker. From my view here down below, as of 4.50 p.m, the snow looks down to about 6500.

An alternative plan could be to take the tram up (the first 8. a.m. one, as it's likely to be hellaciously crowded tomorrow), and spend a few hours goofing around up at the upper tram station, using the microspikes, on some of the gentle slopes around Long Valley. (although as others have mentioned, snowshoes might be better in fresh snow) It's a good chance to try some no-pressure hiking in snow.

I'm going up Skyline on Saturday. The weather looks great, and I'm looking forward to stepping in snow.

Cheers,

Sat. 12/20/14

Went up with SJHC We enjoyed a cloudy, windless day with cooler temps. Snow on the last mile. Micro-spikes and poles will help.
