Rescue on Mt. San Jacinto on Saturday night--any details?

Postby cynthia23 » Mon Dec 15, 2014 10:07 am

I see in the Desert Sun this morning that there was a rescue of two lost hikers (from the San Diego area) on Saturday night. With its' usual lack of precision, the DS does not give many details except that they were 'three miles from the Tram station". It sounds like RMRU responded. Curious to know if anyone has more details about what happened?

A mission write up will hit RMRU.org soon, but basically a couple came down from the the summit and missed the Wellmans Divide turn to head back to the tram. State Park personal was searching round/tamarack valley while RMRU and
RSO Aviation spotted them and was able to extricate them. Lots of fresh snow up there.

The RMRU web site has been updated with the latest mission, plus 2 other recent missions in the San Jacinto's in the last week.

I wonder if any hikers on Skyline or C2C on Dec 13 heard anything about it - There were two or three groups from Coachella Meetup. Here are 58 photos from one group http://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Coachella- ... 432511039/

Update - Thanks for the RMRU Update

Howdy All :)

I encourage my fellow board members to please make a tax-deductible contribution to RMRU. I am still here because of these RMRU heroes.

GreatShaitan's write up of the Jensen creek rescue was educational, humorous and modest as usual -- http://rmru.org/missions/2014/2014-046.html.

Now that I've read the mission report, I'm amazed and very grateful that GreatShaitan didn't sustain further injuries when the rock he was standing on broke off

It is shameful that the hikers did not contact SAR to let them know that they were off the mountain and safe. What a tremendous waste of manpower and resources. Thank goodness GreatShaitan wasn't seriously hurt.

These "hiking while clueless" folks should get coal in their stockings this Christmas

From the heart,
Ellen
