Going up Skyline, Saturday the 15th

Postby rggibbons » Fri Nov 14, 2014 12:16 pm

Hi everyone, Can't believe it's been two years since I've hiked Skyline or posted here, with general busy-ness getting in the way, but I'm finally planning to hike from the museum up to the tramway tomorrow, Sat., the 15th. I check out the group every now and then, but not often enough, with a little twinge of envy - it's been too long! But the weather's looking mild and it looks like it might be in the 50s up higher at the tramway station.

Anyway, hopefully I'll run into some folks on the trail. I hear the SJ Hiking Club is going up so hopefully they'll overtake me :-) I'm not fast, am planning to leave around 4 AM from the museum and hope to make Grubbs Notch by maybe 11:30 AM. Hope it's a busy day on the trail tomorrow! ~Robert

The weather should indeed be perfect, so hopefully lots of people will indeed take advantage of it (as opposed to hiking when it's hot!) I'll be out for one of my 'part-ways' but not, I'm afraid, at 4 a.m. :D

Thanks, Cynthia! It was a great day on the trail. Hope you had a good one too!

I brought along my DSLR camera to play around with shooting some wide-angle panoramic shots. They're BIG (2000 pixels wide) so I posted a little page with five of them over here...

LARGE-SIZED Panoramic Shots on Skyline, Nov. 15th, 2014

Sometimes I find hiking solo can be lonely and even a bit of a bummer, but today turned out to be great. I started at 4:30 AM and there were LOTS of people on the trail. I met a few first-timers and got to chat again with some of the regulars - It was great seeing Bluerail again, it's probably been two or three years. I know that trail is a butt-kicker but I always forget just how much, especially those last few miles, but I had a great time and the weather was perfect. I made it to Grubb's Notch in 7 1/2 hours, which I expected. A very memorable day! ~Robert

Nice panoramas! The night shot of the city is great and even the trailhead parking lot shot is quite nice.

Thanks, Florian and Cynthia. The mini-tripod made all the difference for the night shots. And thanks, Bluerail. I hope we'll see you again sooner than the last time, can't believe two years slipped by since I'd been on the trail!
