The several summits of San Jacinto

Sean, Uncle Rico and I set out to do Hikin' Jims Seven Summits of San Jacinto, but due to a minor foot problem (Rico) and some mild AMS (me), came back with four. It was a day full of off trail route finding and boulder scrambling. I lost my GPS within the first mile off trail, also costing us about an hour of fruitless searching. Most don't get 4 of 7 in a *lifetime*. Good going on a tough day.

Too bad about the GPS. Lost GPS -- seems like an oxymoron. Hope it wasn't a high $$$$ unit.

Howdy Tekewin

Sorry about the GPS I'm headed up with friends on Sunday via the Sid Davis drainage, we'll keep a look out for it.

There is a great XC route from Tamarack that drops you at the big bend on the main trail (at the base of Jean's crotch) at 10 K. Less brushy and more direct than the old Tamarack trail

I agree with Scotts -- excellent effort on a tough day.

Regarding San J 10 K peaks bagged -- I've only done Miller, San Jacinto and Jean in one day. That was a snowshoe trip -- much easier and faster with adequate snow.

Well, the mountain is much bigger, is able to withhold oxygen by way of altitude. It's a companion of earthquakes and only laughs at weather.

It's also made of rocks. Where it's not rocks it's trees, brush, cataracts (sometimes dry), voids and precipices.

That's only the beginning.
