Adventure Pass ruled illegal

General Palm Springs area.

There are been a lot of valid points made in this thread and I agree with most of them.

Everybody wants the adventure pass fees collected going to the forest and those maintaining them, but honestly even if all the money goes toward hookers and blow, I'd be happy if the $30 helps keep some of the riff-raff (defined however you want) out of the forest.

Keeping the undesirables out of the forest probably saves more money than the $30 fee, and enhances the outdoor experience for those that do responsibly enjoy the forest. Heck I'd pay $300/year to guarantee that my car wasn't broken into while out on the trails.

so when does this go into affect? If I decide to park at Manker Flats Campground without an Adventure Pass are they going to hit me with a ticket? I also see the Forest Service over at "The Bridge to Nowhere Hike" steadily handing out tickets for those parked on the road w/o an Adventure Pass. Does this ruling take affect immediately?

So, is the Forest service enforcing Adventure Pass requirements in the Idyllwild area, namely Humber Park or not??????????

If you just park and do not use the facilities, such as the restroom, there is no requirement to pay the Adventure Pass fee at the current time. That said, the FS might still put a ticket on your vehicle. They are in the wrong if they ticket you and you have not used the facilities.

The House is working on getting HR 5204 through that will greatly increase fees on public lands. Here's a good analysis of the bill:

If this bill goes through, you might be paying through the nose to step on public lands. If you don't want this bill to be passed, contact your representatives and let them know.

The FS is preparing for the new fees - I see that a new information kiosk has been built at the Momyer Trailhead in Forest Falls. The groups that benefit from these fees are fighting hard for them. It is time for the general public to speak up against them because the Adventure Pass was just the tip of the iceberg.

I was up at Chilao and was talking with the Ranger about it, he said that you still had to display the Adventure pass since it sill has not been finalized. I have no issue with it and do not want to test fate.

Howdy Kathy :)

Thanks for the information regarding the Momyer TH, ugh :(

For the record, I have never minded paying for the Adventure Pass -- my issues are 1) the locked gate prohibiting access to the Vivian TH and 2) a certain individual who manned the kiosk at the gate.

Anyone know if the decision was published? I am interested in reading it but can't find the citation through google searches.
