Tahqutiz loop from tram

Howdy All :)

Marilyn and I joined the San Jacinto hiking club for a hike from the tram to Tahquitz before the tram closes for maintenance. We had the pleasure of meeting and hiking with Mike Chapman and Scott Cadman. It was a gorgeous day, actually felt like early fall. At Saddle junction, Scott casually mentioned that Mike had climbed Everest in 2010  It was fascinating to hear about his adventure and get his opinion on political issues affecting Everest expeditions. Once at the fire lookout, we were treated to gorgeous clouds hugging the desert divide and a glider zooming overhead. We returned to Saddle junction by way of Tahquitz Valley. My legs complained as they had to adjust to climbing again  The clouds rolled in, which helped cool us off for the final push to Wellman's. Enjoyed Stone IPA and chatting with Jack, Perry Andrus and Marilyn as we waited for the rest of our friends. Then the skies opened up -- rain, thunder, lightening. Phones sounded flash flood warnings. Our friends Kathryn, Richard and Hengst Joe arrived -- sopping wet but happy. Finished off a great day with dinner at Las Casuelas.

Nice hike.

It would be very interesting to hear from someone who climbed Everest. As you noted, I'd like to know if ge saw "green boots", what it's like to move with 30% sea level oxygen, etc. I can't imagine ever taking the risks involved with something like Everest, but the mountain and people that attempt it are fascinating.

Interesting the everest climbers, just watched documentary on the 08 season and the horror's of that year. I feel that it really takes a certain mental attitude to be able to put up with the mental and physical aspect's of everest and k2 and so forth. Anyway, glad you had a marvelous day in the mountains....was watching all week from Murrieta/Temecula rescuing folks on the roadways and dreaming of my next day trip to San j. Possibly next Saturday is my target date. Having withdrawals after being in Tahoe for 8 days. 8)

Ellen,

Did you take the Willow Creek trail to Saddle Jct? I was not sure if it was reopened after the fire.
