is the ccc camp nearby? We are doing our trip to Round Valley soon and are relying on the water there for a couple of nights

Yes, directly down stream. It's been forbidden for decades for backpacker to stay there because of the fragile environment, but then the CCC came in and in effect built a campground for their own use. Their LNT principles are seriously questionable. They laid in PVC pipe into the water from Deer Springs and funnel it into their camp. If there's no water at the springs, you could just walk down into their camp and ask for some...

For what it's worth, I spent the night in Round Valley last night (6/20) and the water was flowing adequately every time I saw it. It was taking about 2 minutes to get a quart of water, so as long as there wasn't a large crowd gathered around it was just fine.

Spent Monday and Tuesday nights in Round Valley - 6/23-6/25. The water was flowing in the evenings, very slow but steady. It was not flowing in the mornings at all. We camped at Buckthorn - which was the only camp we found marked with a post! Trail crew were out there and it was a bit noisy and I really don't like that they were using loud smelly power equipment. I guess State Park Wilderness uses different rules than Federal. And they weren't working on the main trail, but a side trail to a campsite. And on the main trail, in order to get their equipment out there, they were creating numerous side trails and trampling vegetation Anyway, the hike itself was lovely. Loved the view from Wellman Divide and the top of the peak. Glad I finally did this trip

Having done some trail work in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park where I was told by the volunteer coordinator that you can't even widen or reroute an existing trail without environmental impact studies and permissions, I don't understand how these trail crews are allowed to get away with so much collateral damage to the wilderness area. I've seen it firsthand myself. Considering the background of the individuals on the work parties and that they're not necessarily there out of love for the wilderness, their carelessness is not difficult to understand. But you'd think they have educated and trained supervisors who know better.

I'm backpacking Deer Springs on 4th of July and camping that night at Little Round Valley, our group is quite nervous the springs will be dry.
