Water Sources on San Jacinto

Round Valley pipe flowing as of 6/1. I would probably filter it but it certainly looks clear. I haven't used it myself for a few years.

Can't say that I have one in particular although if I were to camp in Round Valley, I'd probably do it up against the Hidden Lake/Wellman Divide side so I could hike up to the top of the divide and look down in to the "Forbidden Zone" (the Mountain Fire closure area).

I havent been to RV since June 2012, but stayed at the Lodgepole campsite up on the hill. you are perched up above the valley a bit and have great views and solitude.

Hello All,

New to the board. Hoping I can get some good water info. I was hoping to visit the summit at San Jacinto, but that depends on the water. I saw the previous reports and was hoping to get some more up to date info.

I'm looking at Deer Spring trail to the summit via Wellman Divide and fuller ridge to the summit, then down via Wellman Divide or PCT to Strawberry. Any new water reports?

Hi Skinman, welcome! I can't figure out from your description just what route you plan on taking, but you will most likely find water at Bed Springs on the Deer Springs Trail below Little Round Valley. Unless I am doing an overnighter, I always just carry all my water with me, and I have done some 30 mile day hikes in the San Jacintos. I know 3-4 liters can be pretty heavy, but if it's a really long hike that's how much I bring. Some guys may need more or less of course.

Thanks for getting back to me. I actually have two crews going in opposite directions. One starting a fuller ridge campground (crew 1) and one at Deer Springs trail head (crew 2). We were going to go by way (up, crew 1/down, crew 2) of Wellman's Divide. Any water at Strawberry or Wellman Cienega?

There was water at both Wellman's and Strawberry a couple of weeks ago. Wellman's was pretty good, Strawberry was moist but not really flowing.

Did Devil's Slide to PCT, Deer Springs, camp at LRV, Peak this morning and back via Wellman's. Strawberry was a puddle, nothing really between there and Bed Springs, Bed Springs is still a very strong flow. Wellman's Cienega had several very usable pools of water, I'd call it a good source for now.
