2 Nights in the San Jacintos! 5.24.14

Postby greatshaitan » Wed Jun 11, 2014 6:56 am

My buddy Patrick and I hiked up out of Humber Park to camp at Tamarack Valley for 2 nights. We left at 2pm the first day and got to camp a little before 6pm.

The next morning we summitted Miller Peak (10,400ft)

San Jacinto Peak (10,834ft)

and then went off trail to summit Jean Peak (10,670ft)

and lastly Marion Mountain (10,362). We went up both the marked summit and the "Fun Looks Taller Than the Other Summit" summit

As we were coming down we ran into a youngster that was having symptoms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). After speaking with them he was recovering well after descending and they were heading back to the tram. A few minutes after their departure we could hear/see the CHP helicopter in search for them. They made it to the tram and were in good condition.

The third day we had a nice hike back down to the car for some lunch and a beer at La Casita. Great trip!

What's the Water Report?

Postby Skinmansd » Wed Jun 11, 2014 6:45 pm

Can you tell us about the water status on the mountain?

Thanks

There are three high points on Marion Mountain. A spot height is given for one of the three high points, but a spot height is not the USGS's official designation of the highest point.

The summit of Marion is the westernmost of the three high points and is higher than 10,362 feet. See discussion if you're interested.

On 5.25.14 there was water at the Round Valley pipe and Wellman's Cienega.

Howdy Great Shaitan :)

Great TR and pictures as always.

I know I've said this before, but every time I see your smile, it brightens my day 8)

Bet you enjoyed not having to deal with poison oak.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

That's a fine photo on Jean-- casual attitude at altitude

Thanks for the TR. Tamarack has a variety of sites with distinct character (despite some of last year's marks of activity and improvement--or have traces been removed?)
