Hikers rescued below mountain station of aerial tramway

They were above the 7000 ft level and thought they were on the Skyline trail. They were dehydrated after about 15 hours

Howdy All

I hiked the Strawberry loop yesterday and heard about the rescue from our tram family. Here's what I was told:

Apparently, one of these hikers was also rescued off of Skyline last week.

The hikers started Friday night and camped at the picnic tables to get "an early start."

A fast Skyline regular who tolerates heat well passed them around 5:30 AM Saturday morning as they were breaking camp. They were cooking bacon in a cast iron skillet.

They were rescued at the 7900 ft level on Skyline.

I ALWAYS carry a skillet and a pound of bacon. Too much beer and never enough water.

400+ trips and still alive.

It's a full minute and half later and I'm still laughing .. ...

Next rescue: they'll be making a few gallons of chili in a cast iron dutch oven. Or maybe barbecuing a whole steer. Or perhaps brewing their own beer in a fifty gallon barrel, which they'll drag behind them to Flat Rock.

Beyond unbelievable. But hilarious, I'll give them that.

I did the north Lykken trail from Ramon on Friday and looped through the picnic table area. Found the remains of their campfire. I scattered the fire ring and picked up a some of their trash but not all. Looks like they used one of the tables as a cutting board and left raw meat scraps, food packages, empty cigarette pack, etc. These people are pigs. Pigs and shit stupid ass hikers. I hope they die next time.

Mr. Jenkins is NOT on Facebook, despite my initial optimism. Thank you for setting me semi-straight Great Shaitan. It appears that this forum is the only medium in which we can pillory Jenkins.

I knew he was rescued recently, but I didn't realize this is the guy who got rescued on the "Let's leave at 4.30 pm!" hike two whole weeks ago.

It almost appears as if Mr. Jenkins is--I"m going to go out on a limb here--a monumentally stupid man. There, I said it.

I"m thinking we need to institute some kind of yearly award for "Most Idiotic Skyline Rescue-ee". Winners would need to demonstrate a highly evolved mixture of Deep Foolishness, Monumental Hubris, Repeated Stupidity, and Bizarre Details.

I envision a small statuette in the shape of a tiny cast iron skillet. I move we call it the "Idiotically Annual Matthew Award for Jovian, Egregious, Rotten Kookiness"--or the IAMAJERK, for short.

And of course, Matthew Jenkins will be our very first winner!

I wouldn't send out the lynch mob on the 'real' Mr. Matthew Jenkins, but I do think, given that he endangered both the rescue personnel and his hiking companions twice in two weeks, and set a fire on Skyline, AND left a giant pile of trash, he definitely deserves public mockery.
