Water Sources on San Jacinto

Can anyone with some experience in the area make a prediction about the availability of water in Round Valley towards the end of June?

Round Valley (as distinct from Little Round Valley) has a spring-fed pipe which has been running every time I have ever visited Round Valley, regardless of season. That said, this is a very dry year. But I bet there will be water in Round Valley through June.

The California Concervation Corp (CCC's) also has a line connected to this spring. When they are using the water the pipe is very low and sometimes it doesn't flow. Fortunetly this is usually only for a few minutes at a time so if its dry just wait or try and find someone with the park and tell them. Odds are there is a leak in the line going to the CCC's Camp.

Hiking up to Strawberry Junction Friday May 30, and on Saturday doing a loop around counter-clockwise to Wellman Divide to the Peak and back down the Deer Springs Trail.

Will be HOPING that Deer Springs or Bed Springs are running as that was the plan to fill up water to bring back to camp at Strawberry Junction Saturday night.

Last ask but anyone else seen what it was like on that part of the trail this week? Hikin Jim if Deer Springs was flowing does that mean it is even more likely that Bed Springs will still be flowing also?

I will be sure to post an update on what I see next week.

I was just up there (May 28th). Lower Deer Springs (PCT crossing) is flowing barely, just some pools and a trickle of water. Bed Springs at the trail crossing is running strongly. Upper Deer Springs (at 10,000') is only a pool of water under a rock. Bed Springs (by the rusty bed) is running, too, with a continuous flow all the way down to the trail. Rumor has it that Little Round Valley has water again after last week's storm....but I did not personally visit the place.

We hiked to the peak and back today Saturday May 31 from Marion Mtn. campground and Bed Springs is running pretty strong. Heres a zipped .avi video to download and view.
Little Round Valley appears to be completely dry from the trail through, but I don't know if there are other places there to look.

For Round Valley - is it safe to drink the water straight from the source, or would you filter it first? Our trip is in 3 weeks!

A lot of people drink in unfiltered, and I've never heard of a problem, BUT some time ago apparently they opened up the tank that feeds the pipe and found a drowned rodent inside. I've been filtering it.

I can confirm everything that you saw along the trail, as I was up there on Sat. May 31 and did a loop to the peak from Strawberry Junction camp. Wellman Cienega is barely dripping but was able to get 3+ liters using a cup/bandana to pre-filter the sediment out from dipping in the pools. Little Round Valley is completely DRY. Deer Springs was flowing enough to fill from the moving water without having to dip into the pools, and Bed Springs was flowing very strong across the trail. Bed Springs (1/2 way between the Fuller Ridge trail junction and Little Round Valley) is your best source right now. did not go to Round Valley so I do not know how the pipe is flowing.
